the first chair is substantially more simple than the two later ones. The first is a flat back with a platform and no apparent cushion. It has some diamond tuck work but no pleats that go over and behind like a chesterfield couch. it also has no wings on the back. The arms look very simple and unless I am missing something, I would personally estimate 15-20 hours for the first pictured one and yeah, the last two pictured ones would be maybe a hundred or so hours, especially if you are learning as you go.

if the sundeck is on hinges to allow you to get to an outboard motor from inside of the boat, put a raised stop on either side where the sundeck platform rests on the aluminum rails and it will give you the slope back

uncle,

where is this bonded leather coming from? I remember seeing some a few years ago but it was sort of thick... How are you dealing with welting?

In practice, no one is going to sue you in court because you retrieved the unpaid for item. And if they did, you can counter-sue and get your money and its easier that way. In georgia, we have what is called "self assist re-possession" and in a past life when I was a jeweler, I used it frequently.  I would always stop by the magistrate's office the day before and tell him I was going to do it and when I did, they generally got the police and I stonewalled them and I got paid.

General Discussion / Re: Tack Driver

we have discussed before methods and a consensus that some have in reference to duplicating methods used in the customer's piece when putting it back together and returning it and not trying to re-invent things. On occasion I see chairs such as the one linked below and they often have the cheap nailhead tack strip. I would be inclined to re-do it in the same method. Although, it would be rare that someone would want to pay $400 to recover a $198 chair.

Do any of you ever use the continuous tack strip stuff that has four fake heads and one real nail hole? (with the metal between the fake nail heads). I never thought it looked professional

this is a pretty good video that incorporates a box size to make it easier to install and look professional, and miamicorp has some black stretch vinyl that is in the $15 a yard range making it less expensive than the color allsport

General Discussion / Re: boxed cushion cover

i have seen putting cording on the face and it not being premade, i have seen making cording first and then applying it to the face and then putting on the box but i have never seen making cording first and then sewing face and boxing at once like that. Her method would be faster than others, but for a beginner or a first time, that method could go wrong or be hard to understand. My favorite video for a box welt cushion cover is as follows. I also make my zipper panel longer so its easier to stuff,

General Discussion / Re: Half-drop?
February 12, 2013, 08:14:15 pm
a half-drop design refers to the material. and specifically the repeat of the pattern on the material. If you turned a brick wall sideways and each brick was a repeat of the pattern, it would be a half-drop.

Speaking of Durafin.

What is a good source for a treated cotton duck such as Durafin?

Zane (my main use for it would be on budget jobs etc so price is a factor)

General Discussion / Re: Consew 146RB Made in Japan?

If it is an older Consew, it might have been made in the Seiko Japan factory, if it is new, it would be Chinese.

for me, gluing foam to vinyl with spray adhesive would take precendence over just gluding foam to the wood. Depending on the size of the panels, I would think foam glued to vinyl and then properly mounted on the board panels is sufficient.

do you mean fiberglass?

either way, I keep a tube of liquid nails handy.

do you just cut strips and turn down both edges? do you use a binding maker or just fold it and sew?

thats a good idea. The only thing I would change is to make a fully enclosed box with a door and insulation for the compressor to keep the noise down on an oiless little model.
