However I thought best to ask the other professionals, would you send me advice and maybe links. Hi Waterfall skirt, cottage skirt,(cottage country is were I live) yes that's the one. I normally add extra rails to attach inside cotton too, then pray to god that the skirts line up. I have taken apart the upholstered to look slip covered furniture, and have always found an extra rail attached, sides and back, I just don't get the skirt corners. Website, video, Plzzzzzzzzzz

Hi Everyone, its been awhile, have been busy with work, work, work, and buying a new home. I have another off the wall question. So I have been upholstering couches to look slip covered, I really need a guide, a video, some more knowledge on how it is done. Apparently the ones I have done look wonderful, however I feel I do not know how to finish skirts properly, any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thankz PAT

Hey Darren I consider Northern Ontario - Sudbury to Saulte Ste Marie and I was right in the center of it, Elliot Lake, I had a great range, did repairs for all the major Furniture Co. ( didn't last, have a hard time lying constantly) large cottage country, boats from Blind River on Lake Huron. Was a great place, great business, then life changed. Now in Muskoka, lol.

This is interesting, and could be a lucrative business for someone. Have hard plastic seat, attach foam to it and cover in white vinyl. lol  Has anyone ever done one, any thoughts. they price at 172.00 what a joke.

This is oh so funny, I was going to ask the same question today, hand pain.  Well I've been at the business for 26 years, I am now a one woman show, but used to be big, covered a good section of northern Ontario. So I see a Chiropractor, he loosens my shoulder blades, lasers my hands. have done acupuncture, loosens my forearms, and plays with my ciotic nerves in my butt. I  do an array of hand and shoulder exercises, but the pain and numbness is constant, I know as upholsterers we work dam hard, however I truly like what I do and am dam good at it. I use volteran too, you can get a large tube at walmart for under 20.I have often thought that being able to submerge my hands in hot wax would be wonderful, however chiro says we need cold not heat, so I take ice cubes and rub them over my thumbs and wrists. I have a lot of tricks.

Hi thought my last little note had gotten through, oh wrong. I have done numerous chiro, hospital, table in my 26 yrs. The real trick is to get your client too take them apart, and then you can pick them up. Most head-rests on chiro tables take a long time to take apart 30 to 45 minutes. As far a upholstery, its very easy. Your main time is in taking the bloody tables apart and puttin them back together, my suggestion take pictures of every piece, definitely helps, and I am sorry your price is defiantly low, 20 years ago i was charging 350. with vinly PAT

Hi I have done several chiropractic tables and hospital tables over the years. The trick is to get the customer to take them apart, the older ones have numerous screws and bolts, some headrests take up to an hour to get off. I'd say your quote of 200. is low, however I do agree, do the first one, then up your quote as per your time. Thanks Pat. Also make sure you use the appropriate vinyl, or else you will be doing job again in a couple of years.

So I have now seen what I am dealing with. Benches were made by carpenter, no thought into attachment of pieces made. Seats are 18 and 3/4 by 48, backs are 34 1/2 by 48. Figure I'll use 4 inch foam because base height is already 18 inches, with a 1/2 in plywood underneath, and he will have to bolt or screw them in. I figure my best bet for backs will be 2 inch foam, with hanging cleats and 3/8 plywood. I do not know if seat should go to back of frame or should back come down to behind seat. The client wants everything simple, because we are in cottage country and they will get a lot of use especially in summer months, so we might have to repair them. So i figure top-stitching will be best

The restaurant is not open till March I am doing the job from scratch, there will be no extras, just top stitching seams,  new foam, new material, everything new.

Just remembered the boat seats that are in shop in corner. They are from a speed boat, totally contoured to rounded out seat and back, the vinyl has been glued to foam. The question is how do you get the vinyl off the foam without ruining it. Thankz PAT

Hi: Its been a long time since I've needed this kind of help. I have 30 yards of expensive linen to put on a large sectional, Have taken a t-square, chalk, made a straight line, cut it with sharp sizzors,  ended up with a uneven line. I have heard you use masking tape. Does anyone have any other tips for this dilemma. I really do not want to spend all the time masking out all the pieces that go into this very large sectional.  Thanks to all PAT
