General Discussion / Opinions on another machine
October 29, 2012, 01:37:16 pm
I am looking at a 30" long arm machine w/reverse, Juki LG-158 single needle with nice table, new motor and has some features that use compressed air.  I'm not too familiar with long arms or the compressed air features but I have always wanted a long arm.  Its about 10-12 years old.  I have a Juki 1541 and love it.  Any opinions on this particular one or long arms in general?  I can get it for around $3,000.

Thanks

Bryan

Hey Gregg,  In your opinion, are these good machines in general and suitable for automotive upholstery?  Any idea what a reasonable price on one that is about 12 yrs old with new motor and stand would be.  Do you know if it is easy to get a manual for one?  (It is a compound feed w/reverse)

Thanks for your input and anyone elses.

Does anyone know how to remove the black knob the reclines the seat backs on these vans?  Does it have to be pried off?

Thanks for any help.

The Business Of Upholstery / Re: 57 chevy interior?

Sorry to dig up an old topic but still relevant.  Was wondering if someone (Russ) would maybe expand a little on the "lining the doorpanels up with placeholder screws to get the panels to line up" concept?  I'm working on a 57 with later model front buckets, factory rear bench seat & door panels.  The customer has bought replacement "cardboard" doorpanels which I may not use.   Thanks for any help/comments.

I wonder how difficult this would be with the outer material that has to be trimmed away being leather?  I was thinking that maybe you could put some type of barrier between the outer material and the background material that would make it easier to trim away without accidentally cutting into the background.  Maybe a thin piece of cardboard?  I'm trying to do this very thing on a door panel with a "Z" emblem from the early Datsun z cars.  The emblem is just about to intricate to make it work.

The very best way to clean it is to just take it apart and clean every nook & crany with laquer thinner.  Just spraying the thinner thru it won't throughly clean it.  Mine worked better than new after I put it back together.  Just my .02 worth. ;D

What do you guys do when you need larger pieces (in excess of 12" wide split down to about 1/2 thickness)?  Johann at Coachtrim can split pieces up to 11" wide I believe.

Hey Jojo,  I would definitely be interested to know if you come up with a supplier of this mesh fabric.  I have one of the "safety" covers made from this exact same stuff.

General Discussion / Just a ballpark

O.K.  For any one who would care to give me a ballpark in your neck of the woods.  I know everyone is sick of pricing questions but its the one thing I have an extremely hard time with.  I have the opportunity to bid on a 79 Trans Am.  2 buckets, rear bench seat, 2 front door panels, 2 rear side panels, cover the console & rear package tray.  All will be done in vinyl - 2 different colors.  Basically following the stock style.  I'm in Southwest Virginia.  Thanks for any input & no problem if theres none.
