So many different fabrics from Herculite.. which do you use?  Riviera, Regatta, Regatta II, Aqua-tex II..?

Looking for suggestions.. What is the best material to use on chafe points on a dodger..?

Thoughts on a grommet press versus a grommet inserting die..??  Was looking at the PM-5 grommet machine...

I was looking for a second machine and my partner came upon this one on ebay.. located locally so we could easily pick it up...  Asking price is $550...

What do you think??  Any and all opinions welcome...

I had to put my 2 cents in here..  I hold a few college degrees and worked corporate most of my career.. but have never felt the gratification that sewing gives me.. All it ever gave me was a steady paycheck and lots of ugly stress...which is why I've turned my back on corporate and opened up an upholstery shop...

I don't think this subject provides any constructive benefit here..

Hi all...

As many of you know.. I'm newly in business and starting to get some calls for estimates..  But I'm having people request photos of the work we've done..   

I had worked with another upholsterer who has since left the state and moved back to florida.. so I don't have photos of my own personal work...

How have or would you all handle this?  Thanks!!!

Actually.. the owner isnt in a rush and knows this is a start-up... we just had hurricane Irene go thru here.. lots of folks pulled their boats..

New shop.. New job.... Need advice...

I have a 1975 Boston Whaler Sakonnet ... owner wanting a cockpit cover.. This has a wooden center console...

Looking for advice.. first time with a center console like this.. At least owner is in no rush.. So I can take my time... :o

I too am just getting started and a new shop up and running.. Being a lifelong sewer since I was 11 years old.. Sewing has been my passion as long as I can remember..

I went on to get degrees and have worked in high end insurance jobs in NYC.. never to find the gratitude I really wanted.. Until one day I decided I could re-upholster our boat... there was born my new passion...

I walked unannounced into an upholsterer's one day and said I know how to sew.. but I want to upholster..!!   Then and there.. he told me to sit down at his Consew... I knew I was hooked...  So I went faithfully to work with this upholsterer... UNPAID.. so I could learn the trade hands-on..   Then he offered to sell me the business.. but my husband was very sick and I couldn't take the chance..

So now.. I've taken a big leap of faith and opened my own shop.. learning every day.. asking questions all the time..   I've even developed a great working relationship with another marine upholsterer here in CT that graciously helps me and answers my questions whenever I have them..

THIS IS A GREAT CREW here on the discussion board.... seek out their knowledge... Same with suppliers.. they're happy to help!! Good Luck...!!!!!

Are you also replacing screening the same way?

Your comments regarding the clear vinyl glass are really helpful.. especially now since here in CT after the hurricane... folks are calliing to get their windows replaced after being damaged.. I'm using primarily the 30g clear vinyl..

Being a newcomer to this business... can you experienced marine folks please share your suggestions to sew in new glass...

Are you putting it over the old and sewing prior to cutting out the old...??

ANY and ALL SUGGESTIONS are being considered to help me save time and still produce quality..

I got my Consew 206rb-5 from Gregg.. I did some shopping around and even my local guy couldn't compete with the price and customer service..

I'll be doing more business with Gregg for sure..  Good Luck..!
