General Discussion / Re: Winter Covers
November 12, 2011, 01:16:33 pm
Bringing this one up, no point creating another winter cover topic.

3 piece winter cover for a new 45' Sun Odyssey (Jeanneau).

Top Gun(68mtrs), dutch laced, zipped access on transom, eyelet & spliced.

Couple of quirky areas that need to be dealt with but overall, PDG. :)

Soft weave Polyester webbing with sliding bar buckles works OK.

Put more bow into the bow to raise it up a little. Grab the middle with both hands and give it a good ole heave.

Funny, I use binding rolls and bend my rulers just like he does.
One major mistake though, he's sliding that window vinyl around
on an unprotected surface. Always, always lay something on the
table first. An old sheet or something.

Good spot, DBR1957 and very good advice. I have to admit that I cheated with this one by editting out when I applied some non PVC film to the underside of the windows. I wasn't prepared to ruin the windows. I wasn't that bored.  ;D If you watch the end of the video you'll just catch a glimpse of me peeling the odd bit of film away from the sitich line before sewing. 5 points, mate. :)

Shame you can't view it, Mike. :(

McDonalds has "I'm Lovin It", Nike "Just do it" etc...

So I'm thinking of having 'We'll stitch you up in no time'

What do you think?

That was indeed pretty damn quick. I'd probably work that fast too if I had to listened to that tune all day. Do customers get to choose between 33 1/3 or binding spool radius?

Do you install them that fast too? Do we get to see that video next?

Most go for the old 78's ;)

I was going to record every process but it was taking too long. You'll be surprised how much longer it takes when trying to do this work differently than you would normally, you really have to think about it. DH picked up on the failure to cut the window area before sewing and the funny back and forth to the store room to find a suitable curve for the window. :) DH get's 5 points for each find, well done mate, but there are still a few more to find. Anyone?

Move the bench? I would if I could, but I would lose too much room in doing so. Working on the bench doesn't bother me, as I'm used to working on my knees (sail loft environment).

Next time I install a sprayhood I'll record it. I've got one to fit on friday but it's a simple luff & track install so it wouldn't be worth it tbh.

Forgive me guys, I was intending this to be a lighthearted approach relating to our trade that may have kicked of some discussion from the content of the video, not some joke thread. I guess it's entirley my fault for using such an ambiguous subject title, but then again, since when has a good  subject title prevented off-topic discussion on this forum, eh?  :P However, seeing that the whole idea went down like a lead balloon, I'm thankful for the two replies. ;)

Every single job I do are special offers.  :P

I suppose I could do Special, special offers, ;) but I wonder how it would go down with the guy on berth K42 whom just paid £600+ for his replacement sprayhood in July and then finds out his neighbour on K43 just got one a lot cheaper in September?  :o  >:(
