I wouldn't think that there would be enough range in the enlongated holes to cause a bind. Probably need adjustment(s) in the presser bar/feed dog areas.

What's the normal procedure for doing this?  The manual is pretty vague to say the least.  It also doesn't tell me about adjusting the thread take up spring.  Remember I'm very "green" when it comes to machines

Some pop-up campers have a slide out with a shower and a potty in it.  Don't know how feaseable that is to duplicate though. Another option...put skirting around the bottom of the beds with a zipper. Lol you just might have to crawl in there depending how tall you are

Ya I was looking into that with the front cover off I just don't know what a good baseline adjustment would be. I can figure out how to adjust just it all. I love tinkering on stuff

Holy cow that's sum fallout. Lol.

I ordered the navy. Will 1/2 lb spool outlast a boat interior project?
I guess I need to get some g bobbins so I can wind some with the same thread
Anyone have any extra g bobbins they want to give me lol.  I'm such a cheap skate

20 for V90 and 22 for 138. I always try and go with the smallest needle size possible, especially if it is an outdoor applications.

If you start out with a 20 and it frays or you have problems then increase it to 22. I myself would probably start with an 18 gauge for the 90 and go up to a 20. I have sewn 138 with a 20 gauge before.

Alot also has to do with the material your sewing as well and how many layers.

Chris

Well I've ordered 138 sunguard thread and have size 22 needle. Do I run the same size in the bobbin or something smaller

General Discussion / Presser foot adjustment

Hey there on my rex 26-188 I was wondering if there was a certain way or height I should have my presser foot (walking foot) adjusted?  I took it off to check the size and when I was reassembling it I noticed the holes are elongated for adjustment.  It seems as though the needle foot presses pretty hard on the plate below and causes the machine to slightly bind so I have to give it more gas to get started

First thing I have to say is wow! You guys on this forum are awesome. No rudeness,  and don't mind helping a noobee out. A lot different than some other forums I've been on. Thank you

As far as the welt foot goes,  that explains why when I was trying to make my own welting with some bigger size cord,  probably for the 1/4" foot,  it would always try to sew crooked and run away from the cord. Ill have to get one of those or find some 4/32" to match my current foot lol.  I guess it depends on what I want it to look like.

Can I not just get that metal flap and screw that mounts to the shuttle race?  The rest of it seems to be in good shape.

General Discussion / What size welt foot is this?
June 14, 2013, 10:08:01 pm
Can someone help me figure out what size welt foot I have. There's a p/n on the center part that the needle goes thru. It is 120370

The other part of the foot has 1/8 on it but I'm assuming that's just for seam allowance purposes

And I'm also looking for this metal piece that's kinda damaged and the screw that's missing. I think it's called the shuttle race?
.
And here's a pic of the shuttle hook? p/n j-g4?

It's ok to laugh if I'm wrong I'm still learning lol. I should change me name to "stitchling"
Almost forgot its on a rex 26-188

General Discussion / Thread twist?

The manual for my machine is calling for left twist thread.  Is left twist the norm?  When I order it do I have to specify left twist.  I want sunguard 92 or 138 thread for boat upholstery.  Probably use a 22 needle am I on the right track?  Oh ya machine is a rex 26-188

Ah I will try that with the belt. Those machines in the videos must have servos.  I may also get a smaller pulley and belt to be able to slow it down a wee bit from turbo mode. Smallest I can find around here is a 2" pulley. original is a 3 1/2". Any thoughts on that?

Wow the compound machine definitely seems to work better and walk the material a lot smoother. Thank you for taking the time to educate me.  Usually I google or youtube everything.  My rex is the first sewing machine I have ever touched,  and will be learning on it. Slowing it down has been the first challenge for me I ended up putting some foam scraps under the pedal to stiffen it up a bit which has helped.  Lastly...what is a fair price to pay to give the machine a tune up?  I called a repairman here in the delta area and he quoted me $129 for a service before parts. Seems a bit steep no

General Discussion / Rex 26-188

I've got a rex 26-188 walking foot machine made by nakajima. Does anyone have any experience with these machines?  I still don't understand if its a compound feed, needle feed or what. Is there a good source for a manual that I can actually read and understand?  I'm wanting to learn to do boat upholstery so I figured that I would get an actual walking foot full size machine instead of a portable or a home machine. What is the biggest size thread I can use in it? And are there any good places for parts for this machine?  Thanks.    Please help
