General Discussion / Spray adhesive question
June 11, 2016, 08:20:26 am
We've been using Permatex headliner and carpet adhesive to stick foam down. Comes in a 16.75 oz spray can. Stuff works great but it is expensive at $13.95 a can. What adhesive products do y'all use and recommend?

Trying to upholster an office chair with rounded corners. Looked really simple...no boxing, no piping....
How hard can it be..... After numerous tries, I am about to run screaming. Using marine vinyl and can't get around the rounded corners without a bunch of wrinkles showing on the edges....which is not what the chair looked like with the old vinyl on it. Can anyone explain to me what the trick is for getting around rounded corners without wrinkles before I go insane? LOL. Thanks

This question is not necessarily an upholstery one, but hoping to get some advice. I'm looking for recommendations on the best make/type of industrial sewing machine to use for soft furnishings, specifically draperies. Would a drop feed machine work for this application or is a needle feed better? Thanks in advance for any experiences the members here can share.

General Discussion / Building a work table
September 29, 2015, 05:55:05 am
Wife got started learning to do upholstery work this year. Bought her a new Juki 1541S in January. She has sewn all her life, but only on a home use machine making clothes, pillows etc. the Juki was a mighty big step up. Since January, she has made a lot of progress. Learning the ins and outs of the Juki was the biggest challenge. Her hobby is turning into a regular business that is now taking up a good portion of the house. We have a 14' x 28' portable building that I will be turning into an upholstery shop for her. She will need work tables. Can anyone give me some input on how big the tables should be, what kind of material should the tops be made of, how tall, etc. I have read some folks integrate the sewing machine table into the work table. What are the pros and cons of doing this. Eventually she will be reupholstering cushions and seats for the vintage travel trailers I restore and may expand to making awnings for them as well. Thanks for your advice.

General Discussion / Need source for sheets of cardboard
September 19, 2015, 10:17:37 am
Upholstering a seat cushion and back cushion on an old metal bench. Back cushion has a cover piece on backside that was made up of material sewn on a piece of cardboard that measures 9" x 40". That piece was then attached by means of 1/2" twist nails to the back of the back cushion plywood. Does anyone know a source for that type of cardboard. It is not corrugated. All I have been able to find is narrow cardboard strips, chipboard and automotive type backer board. Thanks for your help.
