Title: To Much Guck
Post by: RandyOnR3 on April 24, 2011, 08:56:21 am
I do a good amount of custom designs of marine upholstery and when doing the cutouts on the vinyl, I often use an adhesive to glue the vinyl to 1/4 foam and then cut out the project.. befor stitching..
my roller blade and scissors would get gunked up with the adhesive from cutting..
I found that a couple shots of "409" on the blade before cutting left the blade clean and free of anything..

I do furniture upholstery but I sometimes get adhesive on my scissors also. I will give your tip a try.

Another tip: I use Windex to clean any oil off my sewing machine or anything else. It does not leave any residue, evaporates quickly, and with a glass front door, I also use it to clean my door glass and windows.

Don't have any 409, I wonder if Mean Green would be a close second. I remember my grandma would always grab a can of cigarette lighter fluid to clean anything sticky (gum etc). I keep a can handy. Works great for oily stains on cloth. Just put a couple drops on and blow it through with compressed air. It also works great when I get a little careless with hot glue.

If the gunk is fresh I squirt a little super slip on the blades and cut through some 1/2" foam or what not. Can't really let it build up for that to work though. Varsol works too.

Formula 409 is an all purpose house hold cleaner made by Clorox. Very popular in the states.
