I found this site while trying to figure out how to time my machine. It might be pretty basic for some of you but maybe it will help someone, I know it did me.

I learned how to operate and eventually rebuild those old machines while in the U.S. Navy in Lakehurst, N.J.
I still have a Singer 111W153 and it runs better with age. I think most those were built back in the 1930's, maybe it was the '40's.
