There's another forum I visit on another topic entirely, and the admin has stopped accepting new folks for awhile because he said he was getting hit with too many spams coming out of Russia.
We won the cold war but they seem to be winning the spam war.

Any chance someone can send "tonytansl" to the promised land for spammers? Idiot.
I get about 50 to 100 requests for membership on my forum a day
all suspect emails so unless i get an email request i just boot the
lot.

Maybe that is the ticket. Put a note on the main page, saying if you want to join the group, you have to send an email explaining why. Or answer an upholstery related question.
What do you guys think?
All I can do is ban'em when I see'em or when you guys report'em! I just got through deleting two posts and banning two members. It's the same thing every day, and as far as suspect emails....they ALL are, because they've gotten good at coming up with original sounding names and ISP's.

Not a bad idea. Also, the note could say that if they know one of the regular members, they could ask them for a reference. Then the regular member could send Bobby a PM recommending them.
it works for me , zero spam and if they can't be bothered to read the
sticky thread at the top then it their fault .

They've already been banned.
They have to post a joke on Mojo's Friday Funnies. If the joke is not funny, or if it is about Vodka, Chernobyl, or bread lines, they get the ax /// (these are ax marks).
Just a thought.

Or answer an upholstery related question.
Here's one:
Question: How many upholsterers does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer: None! You want it to be as dark as possible when you deliver the sofa!
Heck, if there had been a test 2 years ago, I might not have gotten in! :'(
I sent Ken an email to ask what he thought about adding something like this. I think it would be a good idea. I know I've joined other forums that had a similar requirement.

In the UK, the answer typically would be:
None, the bulbs are bayonet fitting. :-)
Lol, here I am watching the snow drift earthward and chuckling to myself as dawn spreads over the landscape. Thanks for the good laugh.
I like the test question and reference suggestion. And all the other funnies, too.
