On the old cover there was a separate panel handstitched between the poles  ???

I am thinking a zip between the poles, but not sure if the upholstery fabric will stretch around the lower corners.  ::)

Is there a board within reach in there?  I've always done those with a short strip of hydem on the underside to hide that line of staples - the other 3 seams sewn.

Hmm yes there is, hadn't thought of staples.
So I could slide it on, wrap it around the poles (trim) & stapled it down nice & neat.
Thanks June, you are always a source of inspiration.   ;D

I just turn under the raw edge where the vinyl hits the poles.  The staples hold it just fine.  If you're worried about the edge coming out later, just glue them down.
