Hey Gregg/or anyone else,  Do you know exactly what this machine is used for?  JUKI LK-980.  Just like this one....

Looks and sounds like a bar tacker. Used for stitching webbing.

yup bar tacker.


it looks like its set up for doing the box stitch but the chances are it will
be able to do different designs too.

42 stitch means it is not likely converted to a pattern tacker.  I would assume it's setup for standard bar tack, think of belt loops on blue jeans for example.  And machine is cam operated, so it's definitely only going to do one thing, unless you change the clamping (think presser foot), cam, and modify quite a bit on this machine.  it's old, and not worth doing at this point.
