Title: Enclosure Top Pocket
Post by: regalman190 on June 30, 2010, 10:15:16 am
Problem with an enclosure top I installed yesterday. Patterned the way I always do, tensioning the frame, marked seam lines, etc. Made the top and installed.

The front bow pockets were my problem. The pockets fit tight at the sides, but the pocket was loose at the middle.  >:( The frame seemed fine, not bent and in the same position as when I patterned.

Had to do some readjusting of the frame, but I cannot figure out what may have gone wrong.

Is it possible that the frame could have been over tensioned?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Joe

I get this sometimes as well, usually with the wider frames 2.5 / 3m plus.
I get the feeling that it's just the expanse & the pole is bowing inwards a tad. Like it needs a centre strut.  Or a centre pull out strap ?
If it's on a yacht, sometimes the owners have been forcing it down to pass under the boom, not bothering to lift the boom with the topping lift.  Hence putting a nice wobbly bend into the leading pole.  >:(

"si exactamente jefe, un mas fasil reparation hacer poco mas curva en el tubo."  =  Yes, exactly, boss. The easiest fix is to put a little more bend in the tube.

Sorry no trix,
Just a few illusions a spot of conjuring and some juggling of  time and finances  thrown in there and asif by magic it appears on the boat !

Must be slowing down in my old age this one took  11 hours from pattern to fit,
There was a  howling zephyr  that was blowing across the marina while patterning.
But that's no excuse eh?
Really ..... It's only girls work eh, Playing with fabrics and sewing machines ! ; ::)

Hasta luego, Cabeza hueca

I'm an equal opportunities boattopper. I like 'um floppy and wrinkly, tight and wrinkly, floppy and wet, ect.

I tell people their tarps are figments of my imagination. At least I can see wrinkles in this one. I guess you should've spent 12 hours, eh? Or found working girls maybe?  ^_^

looks aweet Raf BUT AS RICH SAID IT LOOKS LIKE THE LONG POCKET ARE FULL LENGHT AS THE TOP no room for a window. i normally stop my pockets back 2" for room for a zipper and window with room for a flap. but it looks ike no windows are wanter on yours. anyway top notch work for sure. :D

my son also said sewing is wemons work and wanted no part of it.one day when i took him to bike week at laconis New Hampshire. like Sturgis and he saw a burly old bearded leather clad biker sittign at a sewing machine sewing patches and do alterations to leather chaps I told my boy to go tell that to this guy  ;D

I leave my pockets 2" short of the top's edge. This allows for the side panels zippers.

In the UK one wouldn't normally have side panels on a flybridge bimini. Therefore by taking the fwd & aft pockets to the edge prevents annoying wind flapping and possible curling.
