Title: leather source
Post by: limey on June 29, 2010, 08:29:18 pm
purchased what looked like decent navy blue hides (on the bench) cut and sewed up covers etc only for the panels to turn gray when stretched over frames. Seems they neglected to stretch when dying.  Supposedly "Italian" hides, I spent what I considered a reasonable amount for a decent product (7 bucks a foot) Will have to discard and start again. This is a Connolly match, any ideas where to purchase a decent product? Willing to spend more if I can get a better yield as these hides, though approx 50 sq ft yield considerably less. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry it's taken so long but I just found out.  Try: Newberger: http://www.evolucion.leonisa.com/leathers.htm

My sisterinlaw who's been sewing leather for decades says it's the best.

They have a special division for upholstery leathers: http://www.alphapelli.com/
