Title: pink stain on cotton
Post by: gene on May 10, 2017, 06:03:45 pm
Hello fellow upholstering aficionados.

I took an old club chair down to it's wood frame today. The cotton under the decking fabric had a pink stain on the top of the cotton. No stain on the decking fabric. My first thought was that maybe this chair once belonged to Jim Jones.

When I took the top layer of cotton off the arms, that pink stain was on top of the cotton that was used to hold the horse hair in place. This cotton was covered with a very thick layer of cotton that gave the arm it's full dimension.

Attached is a picture of the pink stain on the arm.

Any one know what this pink stain is? Should I be worried?

Don't worry Gene, it might be a cleaning solution done previously or just a red fabric that was once on the piece. Cover it in fresh cotton and be done with it. If it were to bleed again it would have to be cleaned with way too much solution anyway. Won't happen.

65 Buick, you are the first one on this forum to get on of my obscure jokes. Or maybe you're just the first one to acknowledge it.  :)

Re the Madonna Inn: In my previous life selling packaging materials there was, and still may be, a specific "Mary Kay Cosmetics Pink" color. It was always fun trying to get different printed materials being printed on different substrates to match.

The pink stain on the arm was under the top thick layer of cotton so that could not be from fabric.

Put on a few drops of hydrogen peroxide and see if it goes away.
