I had a customer pick up their 12 set of Hendradon dining room chairs today. All with slip seats. Plus a somewhat matching settee that also had a slip seat.
I came across this video of the Woodright Shop and his guest is showing how they did slip seats in the 1800's.
He said 1 slip seat would take him about 4 hours. I assumed that this included making the wood frame. And I would think that someone working in a furniture shop who was making slip seats all day long, every day, would be even faster.
Anyway, I found this very interesting.

The contrasting video of an assembly line person knocking out those seats would make Roy cringe. Innovation can make it easier but not always better. The salt becomes tasteless -
