Title: attached cushion ottoman
Post by: gene on September 28, 2012, 01:44:21 pm
We've talked about this before on this forum. Making a one piece attached cushion ottoman where the sides of the box are sewn to the bottom panel of the boxed cushion can be very challenging for me.

I made this ottoman from scratch. A 48" x 36" x 4" boxed cushion with self welt cord.

A 45" x 35" x 11" wooden box/body with poly batting on the sides to bring the total dimensions to 48" x 36".

4 wooden feet that I painted with a color that matched a color in the fabric.

Finished the bottom with black cambric.

What I wanted to share is that instead of sewing a massive one piece style like normal, because this ottoman had 12 tufted buttons, I used the tufted buttons to secure the boxed cushion onto the ottoman body. I drilled holes in the top of the box and ran the tufting twine into the box and tied with wads of cotton. The bottom panel of the box was then put on after the tufting was finished. It worked great and saved me a lot of time.

This is for a designer who will be making a soft cornice board herself for the same room, with the same pattern fabric only different colors. She didn't know if the center of the soft cornice will have the pattern going up or down, so I ran the fabric and matched it so the center pattern goes up on one side and goes down on the other side.

Thank you for the compliment. The designer and her customer picked up the ottoman this afternoon. They were very pleased with it. I got a guy who works down the sidewalk from me to help me load it into their van. It is heavy.

I second that.  Very nice job in matching.
