Title: E-mail photos
Post by: sofadoc on June 23, 2012, 07:47:24 am
Giving estimates from e-mail pics has saved me a ton of time the last few years. No more going to customer's homes after work everyday.
But I seem to be noticing that as the I-Phone gradually takes the place of the home computer for many people, I'm having more and more customers that have absolutely no idea how to send me a photo as an e-mail attachment.
I have a cheapo cell phone that does send and receive low-grade pictures, but I'd rather have a bigger clearer e-mail pic to look at (one that was taken with a nice digital camera, and uploaded to a REAL computer).
One lady who lives 75 miles away tried in vain all day long to send me an e-mail photo.
Finally, I asked her if she could post the pic on her Facebook page. She had it posted in a nanosecond.

Sometimes it seems as though the more our technology advances, the stupider the users get.

Computer dummy here!  (with no adolescent to help me out)

I hear you loud and clear on the whole tsunami of "connectedness".  I have a cheapie TracFone for my business (cheap is the operative word).  I have a laptop computer for my business and now have a digital camera that is readily compatible with it (my 10yr. old Nikon is no longer "supported"!).  I'm still struggling with the basics of posting pictures here, for chrissakes (still haven't been able to embed a photo in a post, only capable of a link).  The totality of what I don't know can be crippling if I spend to much time dwelling on it.

Facebook? Twitter? whatever?  NO clue.  And it scares me if I spend a lot of time thinking about it. So I don't!  I concentrate on my polished, professional, pleasant demeanor on the telephone and in written communication (e-mails!) and don't worry too much about the things that I don't really understand right now.

I have to figure this out as I go along.  And I'm only able to add one step at a time.  I tell my customers that my skill is age-old, but marketing is immediate, and "catch up" is nigh on impossible.  Interestingly, my customers are often my best teachers and most encourageing.

I've heard rumors on talk shows that, because of cell phones technology, the Internet is dying and Google is shrinking. This shows it's not,

I don't think internet is dying at all. But the way that we surf it is certainly changing.
More and more people only use a smart phone to access it. I'm sure that engines like Google will have to (and WILL) adapt.

I have customers that can take your picture, and have it on Facebook before you can blink twice. But they can't take a picture of their couch and send it to me. Go figure.

I would be totally lost without my son to help me out!  In some ways its great, but I have to put up the attitude that the old man is a totally ignorant brain dead old guy.  Its amazing that someone in my "condition" could have raised such a genius. LOL

Come on people. Technology is a great thing. I learned something new today basically by accident. For those who use the chrome browser and have a microphone on their computer or a web cam, or headset. There is a mic icon at the end of the search box. Click on it and tell Google what to find. Works great.
Getting back to the thread. The reason people can post on FB quickly is because most smart phone have a share button when you take a picture you click the share button and it goes on your FB page. Sending one by email is not as easy but almost.
I guess being a tech for years has helped me with all the new stuff. At least being able to figure it out as it comes. We wouldn't be here typing and reading all this is if weren't for technology. So grab it and hold on. It is here and it aint going anywhere soon.
We brought my wife into a smartphone yesterday. iPhone. She was very hesitant to go for it, but she is already using it well. Me I'm a Droid person but the iPhone is simple to use. Fits her well.
If anyone has tech questions feel free to post or send me a PM and I'll help.
