Title: ATV seat cushion
Post by: Faster_K_Yote on March 26, 2012, 04:45:01 pm
When they cover this seat, is the vinyl just stretched over the seat or is there glueing involved?  The part where the vinyl has disintigrated (open foam) wants to ride up and not lay flat.

The vinyl I used is not real stretchy.  The other option I see is patterning and sewing pieces to fit snug.

Vinyl will stretch in one direction more that the other. Use this to your advantage. In this case you want the stretch front to back. This seat can be done in one piece but is tricky to get right. You can also use some cement (made for vinyl) to glue down the center section but in this case it really isn't necessary. Work from the low section and pull the vinyl tight. Using some heat will help it stretch. If you don't have a heat gun a blow drier will suffice. Work the wrinkles out gradually. when you get about 1/3 of the way in each direction from the center point of the low area then pull front and back. If you raise the hollow to much pull it tighter. Don't over stretch the vinyl as it has a point of no return. IE will not recover its original shape.
If you opt to do a boxing to shape the seat remember there will be a leg riding there so make it as smooth as possible. And as low as possible. Don't let it ride on top of the seat. Top stitch it also.

You can do it in one piece without glue. Get a good vinyl with 4 way stretch like Enduratex. If you don't have that, lots of tugging and some heat will get the same results.
