With all the wear and tear on our muscles can we put theraputic sessions through the business?
For example massage or physio whatever is needed to help with the strains of our work .
I don't know about you guys but the more I do this kind of work the sorer I get
It's hard on the back and hands ...even the old knees giving out ....
My previous employer would go once a week to a reiki massage so I wasn't sure if they had put it through the business or paid it themselves
I'm thinking more psycho therapy. Ha :)
But seriously the older we get the tougher it gets. Gotta take care of yourself. Eat right and exercise.
I started out with that with that messege I started out saying .''other than needing shrink''...but I erased it heh heh ..I should have left it in.

This forum is my theory ;D , No really. I work alone & don't know any one else here doing the same thing as me.
Recently I have had to stop switching the puut on two early as I am spending to much time with you guys & not enough time working ???.
Yeh ok sad if you like but other than the dogs I don't see any one all day unless fitting/ patterning down the marina :'(

I would think you could offer any benefits to yourself, or employees as long as it is available to everyone.
Get a note from your doctor or chiropractor for the treatment and include the costs as medical expenses. I don't think it would be a business deduction.
But then, I'm an upholsterer, not a CPA. 2 + 2 always = 4. I don't know how to make it = something else like these CPA's can.
I think we had an article on here where a guy bought a Jaguar because it has an inflatable lower lumbar section of the drivers' seat. He expensed the car as a medical expense because he needed the lower lumbar support for his back. The irs said "no".

I hear you. I've only recently started bringing my 'puter to work with me when I discovered that the business next door has an unsecured wi-fi signal that I can pick up. The upholstery business is not a "high traffic" retail business. It's not uncommon to go all day without seeing or talking to anyone.
I know that some here post that they only return phone calls during their downtime. Heck, I welcome phone calls. Telemarketers have been known to hang up on ME! :D
My feet give me a lot of trouble, so I take several breaks a day anyway. This forum, and a few other websites provide the therapy I need to keep my sanity.
My shoulder and arm are killing me. Living on advil the last three days. Will go get a steroid shot if it doesn't improve in a month or so....
Sofa, my feet bothered me for a long time. Here's two ideas that made it all better for me. 1.) spent 200 bucks on some arch supports, took six months but it helped considerably. 2.) got a work mat from uline. also not cheap BUT my feet don't hurt anymore. Really. Would never have suffered for so long had I known.
Can't speak to the sanity aspect, never had much to begin with.

Over the last 10 years, I've gone through 6 pairs of custom orthotics. The least of which cost $400. I have so much padding under my carpeted work area now, that some people actually lose their balance when they first step onto it.
I've had cortisone shots, I've had the nerve endings in my feet deadened by freezing, and I've plowed through countless other products. You name it......I've tried it.
By 2PM everyday, I feel like I'm walking on hot coals.
I'm having knee and feet problems and I always know when I need new proper shoes
when they start to really bother me I can barely walk up and down my steps ' I get frustrated because It sometimes cuts my workday ..I go to turn around for something and my knee sends me to the moon, or mars or wherever
I didn't realize how bad my habits were ...I never noticed it before ( until the pain told me ! so to speak ) I have a tendency to push a sofa or chair away from me while on the floor with my knee '
I have always done that but I didn't pick up on it and also when I am handstiching or whatever ., I am sometimes kneeling on the cement floor which now is extremely painful ...I used to hop up on the table to work on things instead of geting it to floor level not now ..,today is my birthday 54 yrs old ..been doing this since I was 28...the old bones ain't what they used to be.
Have to keep on trucking though..at least if I am a hurtin I know I'm still kicken .

On a lighter note, Happy Birthday to the other two.
I'm a mere 50 yrs old. Ya'll are scarin' the heck outta me :o

But what will you do when the boots are full? I'm from Texas. So I'm not sure how you would empty them.
Is anyone else noticing that no matter what the topic, the subject always seems to come back around to piss?
My cat crawled into one of my boots the other day. I didn't know how to pour puss out of a boot.

A travelling salesman tells me that "In EVERY town that I go to, when the upholsterer dies......no one takes his place."
We have a little saying here
An upholsterer never dies ...he simply 'recovers ! har har

Or exciting. Depends on how our
parents looked at it.
Before my father died, he and my sisters were somehow discussion my sibling's ages. This was normally my mom's job, but she had been gone for a year. He could remember my one sister's birthday because it was on his 30th birthday, but never referenced back and forth from there.
Anyway, he finally said, "Keith had to have been born in 1951 because there was the blizzard of Nov. 1950 that shut the town down for days." My sisters said they both blushed.
Of course, this was something I had figured out while in elementary school after seeing some of the photos of the snow.
Fun thread.
At 53 (February; was born in a terrible ice storm in '59) I have developed a few nagging aches and pains in recent years. I see a chiropractor routinely and do the prescribed exercises. I make an effort to get out for extended walks with that fool dog (talk about cheap "therapy", lol).
I have been really thinking about working "smarter" recently. Things like work benches at a comfortable height, sewing machine benches and sewing chairs at the proper heights (this is "big" in factory settings but frequently overlooked in Mom&Pop shops), and not spending extended time on your knees or bent over at the waist. Simpler things, like sharp shears, using the hot knife, getting up and stretching every couple of hours.
All those things are not routine when I'm "workin' for the man", but they are part of the equation when I'm working in my own shop. When I work at home I never have to spend an entire day stuffing cushions and working foam into the far crannies of cushions. Ever! but after I finish cutting the foam (on the floor, on my hands and knees) "the man" requires me to then stuff the cushions... . Breaking up the hard part of the work is not permitted. It's really so foolish, when the long view is considered.
Work smarter, not harder.
What makes me feel old, is that on the day I was born, the #1 song was "At The Hop" by Danny and the Juniors.
You can check out yours here:

Mine would be, Don't/ I Beg of You - Elvis Presley. I'm not even sure how that goes. And I'm to cheap to pay $.99 to see. Guess my birth day was a dud.
At 57 I have started working out every morning at 430. Mon Wed Fri I do 45 minutes of weights and the other three I do 20 minutes of cardio and Sunday is a rest day. We are eating right taking the appropriate vitamins and especially glucosamine condroitin. The later is good for the arthritic joints and I can say with all the changes we have made including once a month visit to the Chiropractor I feel alot better.I have lost 16 pounds in 6 weeks which is always good for the knees and the old pump. It is hard to get going and keep the routine going but once its established it just becomes another routine in your daily life. The other side bonus is there are 42 people in this challenge each one throwing in 30 bucks winner takes all, I`m going to win and take my long suffering wife on a holiday. 8)
Exercise is a good thing ., I do a lot with running up and down the stairs all day and going for a walk down to the end of the road to the mail box .
I was so bad with my knee with the pain my husband told me to try the Glucosamine ...I was skeptical at first but I could take the pain and finally caved ..I wished I had started taking it years ago !
Funny eh ? My old dog Brody couldn't jump up into the truck he was slowing down on us. The vet had us try him on the Glucosamine and it has worked wonders ! He can hop in the truck no problem now.
Duhhh I should have picked up on that eh !?
This Dr. Mom highly recommends it !
