Title: looking for zips
Post by: fragged8 on September 26, 2011, 04:33:48 pm
hi guys

You may or may not know our zips in the UK are metric
so slightly bigger than US zips.

Trouble is my Bayliner needs a new imperial zip,

could I buy 3 or 4 from one of you guys ? please ?

or I could send you something from the UK as a swop ?

Check shipping and customs. If the price is similar I'll gladly hook you up from the frozen "colony" .

Give 'Liz a kiss. ( God save the queen got quashed  a few years ago,
damn politicians)

We're seeing it stitched in, minus the seam allowance.

I'm game! I'll trade you for corporate schwag. I've got a 'Pro-Stitch' t-shirt I could do with a 'snugg tops' doo-dad.

Are they YKK #10s? Email me.

I thought they were 10's but wasnt 100 percent.
they are 1 1/2" wide over all.

in our money thats about 38mm but uk #10 zips are 44mm wide

Thanks for the offers guys, i'm more than happy to buy them but
seeing as the Pepster would like some of my promo stuff :-)

How about a snuggopz mug and a couple of my new snuggtopz
pens with an LED light in the end for 4 zips :-)

I'll check the length today but i think they are only about 2ft

Rich, my 10#'s are about 38mm wide & the teeth bit is 10mm. (PK)
I also have one odd one which came from France, it's a YKK #10 which is about 36mm. 4metres long.white.

Any good to you ?

In the US, OEM suppliers of canvas seem to be going to #8's but you may have #10's.  It can be difficult to tell the difference without measuring very carefully, but there's another method.  The #10's have a square-end zip pull tab and the #8's are rounded.  I'll photo some in the shop and post pics later.

June, that's a great tip about how to tell the difference between #8 and #10.  We only used #10s in the shop and the odd replacement of a #8 always creates a hassle.  I generally try to zip a 10 on to see if it will work.  Never knew about the end stops!

I can't help you either Rich

Our #5 = 32mm & 40mm

#8 = 34mm

#10 = 42mm & 50mm

Maybe all zips aren't the same but if you have good eyes or a magifying glass the end of the zip pull that splits the chain has the type of zipper on it.

nice tip June..

at first i though they were smaller than #10 so i'll have to double check
I have a top i made in class there so i'll dig that out to see if they are the same.

I don't think my supplier does #8 zips ?

thanks Grebo i only need about a 2ft, would be a shame to
hack a long zip..

This really has shown how different even zips can be .

Nice to know they get used Mike :-) i bet the coffee tastes better from
snuggtopz mugs too hehehe

I can't wait, I bet it tastes sweet. Good tip June. I hate comeing to a job to find #8's. We only use #10' seperating zips so we have to scramble to find any 8s. Also all our #10's say 10 on the bottom of the box part of the start.

We don't really buy any, but I think Ennis has them. We usually replace both sides with a #10 and keep the #8. We call them American zippers actually.

hiya

I'm back,

I don't really know if its a problem or not ? I got a noise started happening when the motor
is warmed up but it doesn't do it all the time.

As far as i can tell its coming from the oil pump, maybe/maybe not.
if it is the pump i have to take the powerhead off which isn't a huge job
just a PIA.

Just in case, I changed the oil, filter and also the water impeller this weekend
but not had much of a chance to run her up for long.
I have to wait for high tide at our club to launch and it was late on sunday.

We don't have mains water at the club so I couldn't use muffs either.

the chances of the broker paying for a pump are pretty slim, but i can
do the work so not all bad.

Snuggtopz forum is back Allan, go in via the webpage link
as the address has slightly changed.

Ahh yes this thread was zips wasn't it heheh..

Peppy, Pm me your address and i'll get some merchandise
in the post :-)
I looked again at the zips and the tip about the sliders, they have a V8 stamped
on the end and the pulls are rounded, so i guess #8 then.

2 x 26" and 2 x 30" would be great if you got some ?

regards
Rich
