Due to the need for a 'dull' or dark underside & lighter top it ended up as a double layer of stamoid heavy. ??? What a bear to punch through. Plus it needs to be super strong as it is taken off & moved in a shipping container from time to time. I matched the binding to the underside, well it had to be one or the other !
4" between hole centres, as you said ;) size 2# grommets & 5mm cording. No extra reinforcing as the stamoid is pretty tough stuff.
The lumpy bit at the end of the stitches on the back is now under an antenna base :D.
Suzi

Yes ;D I did.

I lace awnings/canopies the way you lace your tops, Mike. I find it's easier to keep tension on the line with that pattern than it is with a simple spiral. But I would try to lace it so the "run" of line between grommets was on the underside and protected from the sun.
With awnings/canopies I start in the center of a run and work my way out the corners (which are held in place with a cable tie/two). Once I have the canopy in place and square to the frame I am easily able to go back and tighten the lacing more by simply putting a hook over the "run" of the line and pulling it down snugly. I work down the line to the corners and am always amazed at how much slack I can get out of a top that way.
The awning trade used to use cotton line because once it got wet it would shrink and tighten the canopy even more... but you have to replace it every year... not so with polyester line.
Ya I run mine on top. Mostly
cause that' ls the way it was. I suppose so the bottom is cleaner looking from in the boat. And yes I start front middle and when I go back to tighten you end up with quite a bit of line left over. I usualy use Black Wichita las longer nut I couldn't get it
