Title: new machine on monday
Post by: fragged8 on June 24, 2011, 02:45:04 pm
hiya
i just ordered a sailrite portable machine today,:-)
i don't have a back up machine for my Juki so this will be like an insurance
policy, also i intend to keep it in my van so i can do simple jobs
for people like zip replacement without having to take the canvas to
my workshop and then return it.
It should save a lot of money just in fuel.

LS-1 or LZ-1?   What sold you on the sail rite portable over other portable walking foot models?

i got the LZ coming Gregg, the only reason i got that one
is i couldn't get the copy Barracuda over here. where can i
get them from wholesale ? say 10 at a time ?

for power mike i'm sort of relying on marina power
i do have a little gen but its about 850w , i'll have
to see what the machine needs when it arrives.

850 watts should run it no problems
if you added a deep cycle battery to your van as a second battery you could run it off an inverter in the truck (probably a 300watt inverter) would do the job

if i can get some over here at a good price
i'll put them in my e-shop. I've not seen any

would it be better to go direct to Malaysia ?

I thought the Barracuda came from Canada???
I ordered mine direct from Reliable Corp in Canada (The service was excellent)
The problem I found Rich was that I could only get it in 110V
I had to convert to 240V myself
There are others that i know of now that are clones are;
Mercury in New Zealand and (Needles Eye Industries) NEI in Western Australia

I bought a Tuffsew off E-Bay ( what a frigging dummy I was ). :) It has the same exact interchangeable parts as the Sailrite and I believe the Thomspon Mini walker.

There are oodles of these machines all made off the same platform but with different names. I was told they were all manufactured in China on the same line but got badged with different names and painted different colors.

Sailrite tried to tell me that my $ 269 dollar Tuffsew was not the same as their machine. They had no further comment when I told them I was buying parts from them for my machine which were actually for their Sailrite machine. :) The parts were identical.

I believe Bob Kovar told me he carries parts for the Thompson mini walker and they are interchangeable with my Tuffsew.

I still have the machine as a back up. I maybe selling it soon if I can find someone with $ 125 bucks. But I probably should keep it around in case I ever have to ship my new machine back to Bob for service.

I am probably going to hold on to the machine as my backup. It would be a good machine for what you want but if your going to be doing full time work with it then I strongly suggest another machine.

I will let you know next week if I am going to sell it or not and if so you have first dibs on it. If you want to come get it then I will throw a table in with it as well.

Yes it is near airport but sw of it just to east of 75.
Nice track runs sat nites. Punta Gorda Speedway is 1/3mile paved oval
I also raced up in St.Pete/Clear Water,Sunshine Speedway was a 1/4mile paved oval, but that is no longer racing for a about 10 years now
