Title: Orange Blossoms
Post by: Mike on March 08, 2012, 10:56:55 am
Last night I walk out into my backyard and the smell of orange blossoms was in the air I thought comming from a neighbors yard.   But I went to the market and the smell was there also must be the wind out of the east. Lowing the smell across Florida.  Andy other Florida folks smell it ?

Nope. :)

We used to ride our motorcycles through orange groves on back roads when they were in bloom. It is a sweet and pleasant aroma.

One year ago I was driving to south Florida every weekend on the Florida turnpike. Half way there Tropicana owns thousands of acres of orange groves. With the windows up and AC on the smell of orange blossoms would penetrate into the van. Nice memory

I played golf a few time in Hershey, Pa. The course if right next to the factory. It's kind of weird to smell chocolate everywhere you go. And yes, even in the ruff.

I remember I shot a 68 there once. The other guys in my foursome then asked me what I thought I might shoot on the back 9. LOL

Look a-yonder comin'
Comin' down that railroad track
Hey, look a-yonder comin'
Comin' down that railroad track
It's the Orange Blossom Special
Bringin' my baby back

Well, I'm going down to Florida
And get some sand in my shoes
Or maybe Californy
And get some sand in my shoes
I'll ride that Orange Blossom Special
And lose these New York blues

"Say man, when you going back to Florida?"
"When am I goin' back to Florida? I don't know, don't reckon I ever will."
"Ain't you worried about getting your nourishment in New York?"
"Well, I don't care if I do-die-do-die-do-die-do-die."

Hey talk about a-ramblin'
She's the fastest train on the line
Talk about a-travellin'
She's the fastest train on the line
It's that Orange Blossom Special
Rollin' down the seaboard line

Mike, you're getting my Jimmies all in a twist again. All I know about Orange Blossoms is the Mock Orange bush in my driveway. And it's about 6 weeks before there's leaves on it, let alone blossoms.

But my favorite band ever does do a song about Hersey, Pa infact-

For now I'll have to contend myself with the gentle wafts of the thawed dog poo from all the melting snow banks.

I have had a mock orange bush for about 5 - 6 years
all I've ever gotten on it is one blossom

What can I do for it to make it bloom properly?

Well from personal experience the trick is to buy a house from a little old lady who grew impressive mock orange bushes, then ignore it for six years except for prunings from the odd delivery truck.

Works like a charm.

No Mike, it's a 'mock' orange. I guess the blossoms look a little like orange blossoms and smell similar.
