Hey DeDe,
Remember me fro Carrs Corner? You sent me a set of 30s and they work fine. I have the press and snap tool with dies for normal snaps the size used on boat canvas and such I don't know the sizes they are called. If these work I'd be happy to give them a try for you.

Hey, Paul.   So glad that die worked out.  Yes, you have a #24 (aka 24L) snap set -- sometimes called "Durable" or "Durable Dot" snaps.  Do you know what brand machine you have?

If you're still in Spring Hill, I have your address.

This is intriguing to me. I'm getting a lot of customers now that furnish their own rhinestone-type adornments for button tufting. I'm sure they would like to have the option to use them in place of nailheads as well.

If you use screw-type studs on the actual piece, you can make a removable rhinestone tufted cover.  I have a slipcover background so that's what I had in mind when I started this.  There are other applications, but I'm a little skewed toward slipcovers.

Cheryl fitted a little piece of leather into her Pres-N-Snap socket die (you have to cushion the acrylic or it will crack).  Might work (might not) with your vise-grips and now I'm wondering if the rhinestone dies might work with a hammer set.  Want to try?  You'll need to brace the die somehow, I think.  Let me know if you're interested.

Do I have your address?  Can't remember...  I can definitely mix colors for you, but let me send some samples first.

Some folks here don't know me, so... I distribute and manufacture covered button components and machinery:  www.workroombuttons.com  I've been a member here since 2004 although I haven't been too active lately.

I need a couple of testers to try out this rhinestone snap setting die.  It works with existing 24L snap dies.  It works fine, I mean... it sets rhinestone snaps the way it was designed to do, but I think it needs some tweaking.  Try it, tell me what you think, and keep the die when it's all over.

You can see the rhinestones here:  www.workroombuttons.com/24-Rhinestone_p_23.html

Cheryl at Cheryl's Custom Upholstery used the snaps on a slipcover right after we got them in -- she used her Pres-N-Snap because the die wasn't ready.  It's hard to tell from the picture, but the rhinestones really sparkle:

If you're interested, or have any questions, please let me know.  Thanks!

Just finished prototypes for rhinestone cap dies -- not sure I got it right and am desperate for a couple of testers.  I sized the die to fit the following machines:

Wade
Osborne
Defiance
C&C Metal
Dyna Line

...but if you have a Handy 24L snap die, I can modify one for you.  You MUST already have a 24L (#24) snap die.

Rhinestone caps can be used in place of regular snap caps (they're really pretty)...

I will send you a 24L rhinestone die + rhinestone caps (and snaps if you need them).  Please contact me if you're interested.

THANK YOU!

I'm a little late to the party, but... thanks, Ken.  You were so kind and helpful to me offline when I was just starting out, and p-a-t-i-e-n-t, too.  Enjoy your retirement (!) and thank you.

My request for membership was never approved. I don't know whether or not that forum has gone stagnant like so many discussion boards.

That's odd. You should have been approved.  However, there was a time when ownership of the CHF school (which owns and runs the forum) was going through some changes.  Things were a little unsettled, and you may have fallen through the cracks.

Definitely not a stagnant board.  Membership is not free, by the way...

Thanks for updating the link -- couldn't follow it before.

He was a local guy (Dracut, Westford...) and wow... what an amazing life.  Rest in peace, Skip.

Dede, I did the "hover thing" and didn't pick up Velcro on the arm chair... where were you looking?

Every "factory" slipcover I've seen (except IKEA, and granted my sample size is small) has Velcro under the arms.  Maybe more upscale furniture/slipcover combinations don't have it.  I know my mom's loveseat does.  I have been known *ahem* to um... take a quick look at the furniture store samples (yeah, my kids just love that...).

Note that these "factory" slipcovers have Velcro on the outside arms.  That's the reason they fit so snugly.

Quote from: bobbinMany of my acquaintances don't put zippers in the main body of a slipcover.  I do, because a snug, tailored fit is what I like to see in a slipcover.  I will frequently use a decorative button placket, as well.

I never used to put zippers in my slipcovers, and they always went on just fine... until that ONE time.  Now my default is a big chunky placket right down the back, sometimes with buttons.  I call it a "design feature" and no one has ever complained.

Thanks, Gene! Something like Rowley fringe adhesive?

...and inside or outside the seam allowance?  THANK YOU! Okay, enough with the smilies...

Quote from: gene on October 03, 2013, 05:57:39 pmI ran a small bead of adhesive fabric all around the edge on the wrong side of the pieces, let it dry, and it sewed quite well.

Gene, could you possibly expand on this?  I'm not actually sure what "adhesive fabric" is, and how you could run a bead of it.

22 years ago, my Kiwi roommate and I were discussing nationalized healthcare in her country.  I asked how such a program managed to keep costs low when medical malpractice lawsuits were jacking up medical costs in the USA.

She explained that people were allowed to sue only with the permission of the government.  Something had to have gone REALLY wrong for a lawsuit to be allowed to go forward -- the NZ version of medical malpractice reform, which (according to my roommate) was very successful.

As for the USA... is anything changing?  Without some kind of medical malpractice reform HERE, how can a national healthcare program possibly be successful?  This isn't a Republican vs. Democrat issue -- it's a very real bipartisan concern that isn't being addressed.

I'm a little late to this party...

#36 snaps are available.  Don't know what brand button machine you have, but snap dies are available for most -- unfortunately for you, only #20 and #24.  If you really want to try #36, I really like Fasnap:

www.fasnap.com/index.php/cPath/45_42

You'll have to get a #36 snap die, of course, and probably a new dedicated machine.
