General Discussion / Re: Solarfix News
September 14, 2014, 06:46:31 am
I like Miami Corp a lot and bought from them in NY. I like Recacril, but can't seem to sell customers on it here in FL. They want Sunbrella. Manart has the best pricing on Sunbrella and they're a few miles down the road so I can pick up. But they have a minimum order of $50. I know that doesn't sound like a lot but sometimes I don't need anything else. Keyston is about 10 minutes from me so I can pick up there too. And they deliver. They do not have a minimum. I buy a lot of my upholstery vinyl from them.
Miami is checking into the blue streak for me. It would be great because I would buy more from them.

I switched to black and white Sunguard. But now here in Florida I'm using a lot of Solarfix, black and white. I get mine from Keyston here in Fort Lauderdale because they carry smaller rolls.

Wish I had known you were heading this way. We could have met for coffee or lunch. The drivers are a little wild around here. Very impatient. If you don't start moving as soon as the light turns green, you get honked at. Did you go to Manart or Keyston?

General Discussion / Re: Had it with Strataglass

June...Mike. Those are exactly the biggest issues I have with Strata. Sharp edges, cloudiness and divots. And when the sun hits it, it becomes so soft, it's becomes hard to fit. And then when Strata tells me that they have a 3" border tolerance for defects, that was it.

General Discussion / Coaming Pad Backer Board

Where is the best place to buy the PVC Foam board used for coaming pads?

Thank you.

Just wondering how you would cut a radius on the top edge of cushion foam.

Also. Is it me or has it gotten softer. It seems like it. I also don't like how it buckles after sewing. But, that goes away when I install them.

General Discussion / Re: Lace Up Top Cost

That's correct Mke. And Frame already exists.
I can see $500 for a flat top with grommets and laced. But to add a bridge cutout and a window that has a cover and then a sun shade clipped off that to two poles....I thought $1000 for everything was a good price.

General Discussion / Lace Up Top Cost

Well....I either dont't understand pricing for lace up tops or there are a lot of guys out there who want to work cheap.
I priced this job at $1000.00

5' x 10' Sunbrella lace up with a cutout to climb through to the flybridge. A vinyl window on the top with a velcro cover. Grommets, lacing and all. Then a 4' x 9' sun shade coming off that.

The customer said he gave it to another canvas shop for $500. And he said he had a few more in that range. Was I way off at $1000.00?

General Discussion / Had it with Strataglass
August 07, 2014, 10:22:37 am
OK, reached my limit. I've had it with Strataglass. I've ordered over 10 sheets of Strataglass in the last two months and every sheet has had defects. I even went to my supplier and they pulled over 5 sheets from new drums and all had defects. The ends are rough and ugly and the sides have ghosting. Manufacturer says they have a 3" tolerance all around for defects. Are they nuts? We
need every inch of a sheet we can use. My supplier says return it before I cut it. But many times you can't see it until it's hung in sunlight. Even found defects in the middle of the sheets.
I think I'm going to try O'Shea. Keyston is here and they carry it. And it's less expensive.
Anyone here try O'Shea?

Sorry for the rant.

I'm with Mike. I would make them new. Much less work and they will look better.
Also, if he wants to store them rolled, they're probably Strataglass. And, I don't think you can get Makrolon in 40ga. I think you can only get 60ga.

Nice Mike. I hear you on the change of clothes. I keep a complete change in my truck. Have to change head to toe when I work outside.

General Discussion / Re: Customers relations.

Wow. I would never show that to the customer. It's awful. I don't think this guy was a "Pro".
