General Discussion / Domestic machine problem.
December 14, 2010, 01:34:48 am

I have an old Reeds sewing machine. Metal body, nice & strong no fancy stitches just straight & zig zag, I use it for any thing that the industrials don't like, light work.  ::)
It has a bobbin case that fits vertically, all of a sudden the bobbin thread has started jumping out of the tension guide (on the bobbin case)  it all stays threaded up & sew's until I get an almighty jam up ?
I use decent quality thread & don't drive that fast  :-[

Any bright ideas ?  ???

General Discussion / Just messin about with leather.
November 12, 2010, 06:25:16 am
I have been making little bits & bobs out of scrap leather, purses, phone case's & the like, so far just for our own use, but I have had some people interested in buying some things.
Now so far I have just been using normal (sewing) workshop/ upholstery tools & marine fittings.
Any one got any advise &/or suggestions on how to proceed.?
Are there any specific tools to make like easier ?
What can I use to stiffen some small pieces of soft leather. ?

I hate throwing anything away, but there comes a time when I have just tooo much scrap foam bits lying about, now if I could 'chip' them up & keep them in a big sack somewhere, I might actually find a use for them, may be.  ::)
Oh course I am talking  cheapo style, not some whizzy industrial gadget.  ;D

On the old cover there was a separate panel handstitched between the poles  ???

I am thinking a zip between the poles, but not sure if the upholstery fabric will stretch around the lower corners.  ::)

General Discussion / What I saw down the marina..
October 14, 2010, 08:24:36 am
Ok, I don't know the measurements but I spotted this big bimini in the marina yesterday.

It must be about 4metres wide.  ???
Those are s/s poles running down the middle, I wonder if it's one of those electric folding ones ?

Nice new Jeaneau 57 any one  :P

I have a customer with a 50 who wants windows in his bimini like this one  ::)

General Discussion / Calling bright ideas dept !
October 13, 2010, 06:40:48 am

This guy wants a cover over the main sail  ???, I could have a few more of the same, if I / We  ;D can come up with a good design.
I am guessing I need to use a halyard to pull it up with, there is a 'spare' turning block for a spinaker pole on the leading edge of the mast.  ::)
All ideas welcomed  :D
BTW he is over 6ft tall  :(

PS.. June I can't seem to knock out the adds from photobucket any more, if I delete the "action & view" the picture will not enlarge when you click it.  :(

It's a brand new boat & the guys given me shed loads of work on it, so it would be nice to have something  'cool' ..  ;D

First stop is Andorra, because they have a terrific camping shop for all the bits we have forgotten  ::) and it's OUT OF SPAIN.

I will pop in when I can & back in September  :-*
Behave your selves now.  ;D

General Discussion / To Peppy.
July 25, 2010, 06:15:51 am
I see you make tents, ;D
I am wanting to make a new cover for my comanche montana trailer tent, the previous owner has creased the canvas  >:( & I have had to fabsil the whole thing except the roof.  :(
The original is made from tencate, do you think I should keep to the same thing or would you recommend some other fabric.

I have not made a tent before, just repaired a few  ::). Guess it's pretty much the same as boat canvas covers. ?

General Discussion / AAaarrrhhh ! Corner seat.
July 25, 2010, 05:13:34 am
OOhh it's driving me mad  >:(
Sunseeker camargue 55. Redoing a couple of the cockpit seat backs.
I have one straight one & one corner.
I am using that PVC foam board for the backs. The corner is a nightmare, I got the board screwed onto the fibreglass molded seat back( on the boat) it bent quite well as I only used 10mm, warmed the whole thing up so it would take the shape.
Ok that went well, I took a pattern of the top & bottom of the curve because I expect the board to bounce back a bit when not under tension.
Now trying to cover the bleeder. I have a good pattern off the old rotten seat but I can't get the *** board to stay in shape to get the covers on  ???
The back is in two rolls, the upper one wasn't to bad because I could tape up the bottom of the board to hold it in the curved shape matching my pattern.
But I can't strap the top & work on the bottom because it pulls the top out of shape  ???
Any bright ideas  :'(
It is  upside down here, the bottom here (actually the top) fits quite well when released, I am still working on the 'larger bottom' (on the top in the piccy)

General Discussion / Hot weather fitting !
July 14, 2010, 08:59:46 am
 ???  Any advise welcomed.
I have a 'bimini' top to replace with stamoid open.
The pattern didn't go to well as I think the plastic started to melt  :P or was it me  :'(
I am making it in two parts, as the stamoid is 260cm wide. I am doing the front two poles as one piece, straight across & the back section from the last pole to the keder as one. I think  ::) it will look better getting rid of the side seams & hopefully adding a seam with reduce any stretch in the length ?
Should I get the front on & pull real tight up to the keder on the arch ? Or allow for some shrinkage. I will be fitting in 35'C +
The overall lenght from front to back is 4.5m

General Discussion / Looking for a Singer manual.
July 13, 2010, 02:10:46 am
I am looking for a users/service guide for a Singer 331K4.
I have been looking through all the free one's & it's just not listed. :(
I am dubious paying for one as last time I did that it turned out to be a general  guide with nothing specific for the machine I wanted it for.  >:(

General Discussion / Slashed roof. (car stuff)
June 28, 2010, 08:42:43 am
Hey boys & girls, I don't do cars BUT.
My neighbour has a Mitsubishi eclipse rag top (this years)  with two 6" slashes on one side of the roof, one of which just go's through the second layer, inner roof ?
He has been quoted €4000, I guess that's a whole new roof ?
Is it feasible to go a decent patch job ?  & whats it take to get it off the frame ?
If you need piccys, it's about 100yards from me, so no problem there.  ;D

General Discussion / Here is a big girl.
June 25, 2010, 04:29:31 am

For those of you who like em BIG  :P
Onyx of Berlin.  45metres  :o Goodness knows how long that mast is. ???
The OH has electronics to fix & I got some cushions to do next year   ;D

I will get a better piccy, this one is a snap from my phone.

I have mine in a rack & just pull off what I want, but the darn stuff tends to either drop off the coil & get knitted up, run away with its self or the cardboard middles come out  ???  I am thinking of just stacking them up & taking out whichever I want to use each time.  Any bright ideas  ;D

General Discussion / Finishing off coil zips.
June 14, 2010, 06:28:26 am
Hi,
I usually use #10 moulded zips on my covers & welding the ends with an extra tooth in  ;D , but am just doing one with #10 coil zipping. How are you all finishing the open ends off ?

General Discussion / Nasty old bimini...
June 02, 2010, 05:26:56 am
I know we all have to learn but....
Some attempt was made to follow a frame line, but I don't know those frame  :P
Shame it seems to be nice material, I just cut the middle out to make the customer a stowage bag for his new bimini curtains  ;)

Some one paid for this !
Mind you makes me feel so much better  ;D
