I down-sized as I'm supposed to be semi-retired.
I now work out of my home - the entire ground-floor ('basement') rec room is now my shop with a walk-out sliding door to a back driveway separate from the main part of the house.
Works ok, as I don't do too many really large projects anymore, (just dodgers, convertible tops and biminis), the only thing is my frame bender is mounted on the wall of an 8 ft ceiling, so large frames are a bit of trouble...

BUT; the right-offs against home expenses are great!  :)

I'd walk away from it.  These jobs never seem to make money; only headaches...

I'm not a car upholstery guy, but I'm thinking there might also be an issue where; in extreme heat, fumes from the bonding agent could be emitted into the car interior, giving off at the very least a chemical smell and at the worst toxic, carcinogenic properties...??

Thanks Mike and Darren

Wet, but don't have to break ice to get the boat out, Darren  :P

Anywayz;  have more than enough work to keep an old, semi-retired hound dog like myself out of trouble!

Just finished a sailboat dodger and bimini;  now starting a convertible top with aft curtains and have another sailboat on the waiting list...   and I'm supposed to be doing this only part-time!  Have had to turn down 3 jobs in the last month - so can''t complain really.

Used to run 8 on my Consew 206.  Moved it back to about 7 or 7 1/4 since I started using PFTE thread now almost exclusively.

When using ptfe, some guys pre-punch the polycarbonate with their machines (without thread) before doing the final sewing to ensure there are no cut or  skipped threads...

I use 2" vinyl strips for re-inforcmnt and binding.  Cheap enough (vinyl < $8/yd) - I think webbing works out to cost more?; ...mind you I have to cut 2" strips off the roll of vinyl, so that's time...

Been recommending it for several years now when I finish a job.  Not a great mark-up on the product though...

Had one sunny day this week - ran out and patterned a job, even though the wind was blowing a bit...

We get our chalk from J Ennis. 'Dustless' it says on the box.

Does anybody know what dustless chalk is anyway?

It's a way that they can charge 15% more ...   ;D
