Oh Sofadoc.. I absolutely *LOVELOVELOVE!* old stuff.  It has character, charm..  and an elegance not found in today's  marketplace.   PLus its DURABLE!  And  while my fingers  run over its parts.. admiring the soft curves or the smooth machinery...whether its a sofa, ornate chair.. a hand built rocker or an old sewing machine... even rusty old junk.. I wonder whose hands  toiled to build this  item...  what was  their life like??  What were their dreams... hmm.. was there even time for  hopes and dreams??   And the workmanship...  have you  looked at some of the attachments for the old machines??   :o  My  soon to be son in law is an engineering major and math genius and he is just fascinated and the complexity of the featherweight attachments... HE admires the minds that created this stuff.. :-)  I ramble.. my bad..

Thanks Mojo..  I  bought this at a resale shop here in town .. $35.. thought I was buying the cabinet.. had no idea there was a machine in it!  So I am a happy lil clam.  Just gotta ID the darn thing :-)

I'm trying to ID this machine and since there are so many of you  knowledgable about sewing machines... maybe someone has an idea?  Its not a Singer..  but it is a treadle...

Until a few years ago..  the only  set of  feet I had was the 1/4"..  works fine for everything.  

That pic  is sooo sweet.  Looks just like mine!  (Minus the "I love you Mom" scratched in the paint..oh - and mines a bit more worn.

Gene, Have you tried the rethreading thing, cleaning thing and loosening the tension??    Did you change feet recently??

Mine acted like that awhile back,   So bad that I quit using it and moved over to my Singer.  Then one day I  set out to fix the Juki and discovered that the head of the screw that came with the new set of feet was a hair too  thick and was interfering with the  needle bar (or whatever bar that is..)   Changing  to the old screw  fixed it. *shrug*  

Hope to hear more on this.  ( YAY JUKI LU 562's!!!  )

I disagree with the general consensus here.  There is not enough information presented to make a fair "judgement".    What is clear is that Gene was offended by the  new price and pulled the work.  I don't consider it "breach of contract at all.   She  obviously felt the work was more time consuming than she expected.  

If you don't consider her professional enough to be fair with you - then by all means... don't use her again.  

I would have kept her and paid her what she asked, unless I felt she couldn't do a good job.  And in that case, I wouldn't have hired her in the first place.

Gene,  I have always found that since it stretches on the bias..  there is  ALWYAS way more than you  can mathematically account for.

Hmm...  I;ve been on industrial machines winding my own bobbins since I was 17.. all i ever did was wind it a 3 or 4 times, slide it on the post, push the mech forward, snug the tension and  forget it.

I have a Juki 562, bought it new in '83 and its never been professionally serviced.  It creeps alot but not 11", over a 75" span I might lose a half inch.    I have found that adjusting the the 2 screw knobs on the top I can adjust it quite a bit,

I don't know the proper names of the screws I turn but one is right on top of the needle bar  - it adjusts the pressure on the center foot... the second  one (look over the center of the machine and it in the back) adjusts the pressure of the  foot.. at least - in practice .. I think that is what it adjusts...   never got brave enough to play with the feed dogs themselves.

I am betting a more mechanically inclined  person will have a better answer..  :)

That is an excellent way to  deal with it if you're a large enough shop. I do  see tips and hints in there that are adaptable.  Thank you for sharing.   :)
