I want to see the machinery... all I found was the usual blog stuff, where do I look?  (I need a shot of envy today).

Didn't you get the Video Bobbin? Mine kept getting stream interruption but what I saw was very cool. A one man shop that could easily employ 10. Lots of interesting machines.

Thank you, Suzi!  I "so get" what that guy is all about; what a cool video!  There was a time when all that sort of machinery was available for pennies on the dollar, now not so much but it's still out there.

I bet that guy'd really like my Willcox&Gibbs rotary take up single needle.

Glad you enjoyed it, I love those old 'proper' machines.

Watching the video I could almost smell the denim, you know, like denim smelled years ago when you bought a new pair of Levis. Great video.

Thanks for posting the video. I enjoyed it tremendously.

OK, voice of reason here.

Yeah, there're lots of very cool machines in that shop, no doubt about that!  But they're old and require service and replacement parts.  Availability of parts and skilled mechanics can be hard to find if you happen to live in an "out-lying" or "hinterland" location.  If you don't have a parts book/owner's manual for every piece of equipment you could be in a bad place!  Moreover, if the machinery draws 110 current the electric bills would be very high.  220 is preferable, but servo motors are even better.  "Old" may be affordable and fun, but there is a reason the technology in the needle trades has moved ever onward.  His comment about better stitiching? utter nonsense.  That's about adjustment and technique on the part of the stitcher.

What I love about the feature is that he obviously applied himself and learned about the specialized equipment required to perform the many tasks required to produce a pair of jeans.  And he was right about most people never seeing the many steps required to produce a pair of jeans.  I loved that!

It definately has to be a "Labor of love" for him. He can't possibly be making any reasonable profit, unless he's charging an unreasonable price for those jeans.

I swear I've seen that sewing room in some old 40's movie. ;D

I once passed on an opportunity to buy a bunch of machines like that. While I do have an appreciation for them, I don't want to spend all my waking hours tinkering with them. I could've had them for next to nothing, which indicated to me that they would've cost a fortune to get 'em up and running.

I'm impressed by his talent, and his shop. But not really jealous.

Hey sofa D: spiffy jeans with a red "Roy" embroidered on the butt would go well with pink cowboy boots.

And yes, I did enjoy the video. I am always rooting for anyone who can make a living as a craftsperson/artisan.

WHAT THE F@#$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I looked at his web site and he sells them through another web site. The first pair of jeans that I looked at, the simple version, were $340.00. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

I saw a photo of Michelle Obama in some spiffy canvas "sneakers."    I think they were a bit more money than a pair of those jeans.  Just sayin'  http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/05/michelle-obama-shoes.html
