Well, guess that didn't work so well. Let's try that again.

Here's a couple of photos of what I was describing.  Hope they come through.

Yes, it's all done with a single welt foot.  I first did this a couple of weeks ago on a Century boat.  All the covers had the double color double welt, and the owner wanted to keep it that way.  It was confusing at first until I took one of the covers apart, then it was plain as day and just as easy to do.  It really gives a trick look to any cover you put it on, a dress-up that you don't see every day.  Hope it all turns out good for you.

Here's a way to do the two-color welt.  Cut your welt material and lay the two colors face to face.  Sew them together down the middle.  Crease them into an "X" shape.  Insert the welt cord into one of the colors, and sew it as usual.  Sew the other welt in the same manner.  Place the proper color welt on the first piece of material and sew it on as you normally would.  Then, place the other color welt on the remaining material and sew it in place.  Cut off the excess selvege on the seam, and you're set to go.  I tried to upload a picture for clarification, but it would'nt go.   Send me an Email and I may be able to send it that way.  Good luck.

I see Jimi Hendrix in the mix.  By the way, what's the cutoff date for dying young?  I'm thinking Elvis was about 42 when he died.  Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin were all about 27 when they died.

I had the first two in the series of his videos, and they are great.  There's a lot of excellent information to be had, and he makes it look so easy, too.  My son accidentally recorded over portions of the tapes, so I'm saving up for the dvd versions.  He has 4 of them, covering seat construction, seat covers, door panels, hard style headliners(one piece), and carpets.  Also, the book Custom Auto Interiors by Ron Mangus is a good reference.  I have used info from that book many times, and review it all the time.

General Discussion / '33 Ford Interior

Here are some pictures of the interior of a real steel '33 Ford Sedan that I worked on.  It took "Best in Show" at last year's "World of Wheels" in New Orleans.  It was quite a project, and lots of fun, too.
