Post by: Skoda on September 09, 2010, 12:13:09 pm
This is a chair that I designed and built.

The only aspect that I didn't do myself was the spot welds

Very nice, Skoda.

I like it. I'll be running around in circles attempting something like that.

Nice one.

Thanks!
It was a challenge. There was a ton of mock-up with the seat, back rest and armrest angles and dimesions. Bending steel is new to me, and I had never installed Z springs before. So there was a lot of walking in circles because I did not want my efforts to end in a chair that looks good but doesn't sit well. It is comfortable, and just to make it more custom, I made the backrest angle adjustable. By loosening the 4 bolts that attach the seat to the frame, the seat can slide front/back about an inch. This makes the backrest pivot from where it's attached under the armrest.

Nice looking chair.  It is true that a lot goes into making a chair sit well, as much as look good.
