I would not recommend this for a beginners kit, just sharing a comment.

I have a 36" needle. I wish I could remember what it was that I needed this for. Anyway, I was working on some project and a 36" long needle is what I needed. I took a metal coat hanger down to a machinist and asked him to make me a 36" needle. He did.

"* Regulator"

yo, wondering what the regulator is for -
you gotta do some scuba amongst all the dust and lint sometimes?
and snag pullers -
for the bbq after?

A regulator is a long pointy stick with a handle on it. Like a needle with no eye ;) It's used for poking into a cushion to 'regulate' the stuffing inside. I rarely use it for this purpose. I find old screw holes with it, temporarily hang side pads on boats, lever stuff in place, kill rats, and a lot of other poky-poky tucky-tuck type jobs.

The only thing more useful than a regulator is three regulators.

Hay Peppy: Your going to have to do a video of rat killing with regulator.

Sure thing but I haven't seen a rat around in ages. Probably due to the three regulators I carry.

Understand and can see it now, the snag puller often helps when any rats might get caught up being before the odd regulator. The snag puller made from an old coat hanger too?

Not sure what the snag puller is called in Latin, but the regulator could be termed agrumentum baculinum "the argument of the stick, club law - the ultimate appeal".  In Oz we call sausages "snags", you know, throw another snag (or shrimp) on the barby.

Yep my regulator is my most handy tool, I very rarely use it on furniture though.

There's been one in my pin cushion since the days when my Grandparents were alive. I never knew what furniture application it had.
Like Scotty, I use it a lot, but not for it's intended purpose.
It seems like every "basic" upholstery tool kit includes one. I guess the guys who put those kits together assume that every shop has a rat infestation. :D

So do you just throw it at them or do you sneak up behind them, let out a blood curdling scream to distract them and pounce like a tiger going after its pray?

The blood curdling scream you've described now has my heart pounding like a soft and hard deadrat hammer.

Janis Joplin knew what she was singing about: Another Piece of My Heart.

Can anyone listen to Janis singing and not feel like they are in church?

I'd add to the list for basic supplies "slip film" aka "silk film" for stuffing cushions and a shop vac though I suppose any vac would do.  I can't believe I spent more than 5 years stuffing cushions using brute force when the vac makes it so quick and painless.  One of us needs to make a video of how this works for the newbies and lurkers on here.

And Gene, yes, I have to agree that Janis put more of her own soul into the music than most musicians.  You can hear it in every song she recorded.
