Yaowza! More convertible architecture.

With the paper. Half pattern.

Canvas without the snaps. Forgot to get a picture fully installed.

Can't wait to see it in the water. And watch him try to dock it in the wind. The ballcap thing worked out awesome.

What "ballcap thing"?  Looks great Peppy.  Need some outside, daylight pics to really see it better.

I have a question for you on the paper template thing.  Once you have it all papered up with tape everywhere, how do you "translate" that to fabric?  I'm interested in how you handle the curved parts.  If you were to cut up your template based on where you think the flat planes end, you might be right most of the time, but I'd guess sometimes what you think is a flat plane that can be transferred to fabric, ends up being somewhat curved.  Decisions still have to be made on just where to put the seam and being 1/2" off on a curved bit could quite easily end up with a bad fit.

You're right, I'll get better pictures later. And not use my iPod to take them.

The curve/not laying flat problem we call a STR. Short hand for 'stretch'. It means putting extra fabric in a seam to let the fabric 'bend' in 3dimensions. It's hard to explain, but it works. When I pattern I plan my cuts where a seam or zipper will be. If I miss guess it can be moved a couple inches.  If the pattern won't lay flat you have to weight the pattern and mark the long side, pivot the pattern mark it again and join the dots. Sorry, I can't explain it better.

Nice job peppy I like the ball cap I call it a  brow like a eye brow.
I try to have a spread bar support mine if possible
On thoose windows did you have snaps? Now here somthing like that sll you see is ltds maybe common sence somtimes.  I did this 40 +  and other but they never cover the whole bridge on the aft deck

Thanks Mike. Across the front were turnbuckles and snaps everywhere else. I was thinking of hiding spreader bars under the brow/ballcap but he had fittings there from the Bimini he had before so we used those. Up here everyone wants an enclosure and wants it as big as possible. We tried to talk him into a curtain off the back of the Bimini but he wanted a camper section.  I have to say he was right. It really is an awesome space up there. It almost doubles the size of his boats living space. Although he thinks it'll be bug free, I bet there'll be spiders the size of sparrows.

I havnt seen a bost without spider up north used to be a pis spider crap.
I agree make a nice space thsts how i would have it.
My very first big job ever was a 38 or so carver like this one

Only it didnt have a rear hard top on the aft deck. I did bend pipe st the time i usedthoose jits that t
Gou rivit the 3 liece bosw together.  Sell i had to replace the vridge bimini thst had a old frame but i had to figure out how to make a canvas top on the rear aft raised deck. So i used kits
The bows had teo of the soan pieces and at the rear i har a vertical supoort st each joint doen to the hand rail the front bow was helped suported by a window panel that attached from the rear top up to the back of the bridge bimini. The center bow pocket 2 if i remeber eere covering the joints with a long pocket.
It was a rear learning experiecne the transition fron the hight bridge top down to the wider rear top with door panel to vo corward ti the. Bow on the sides of the boat. I got a bender shortly after that.

Peppy

Thats nice Mike. Those Carvers get tricky. I did one last spring but it didn't have the hard top. Gets even goofier then.

I call it 'convertible architecture'. I did a half pattern on it too.
