Title: Rescued from the cats!
Post by: ibstitchen on December 14, 2011, 07:40:50 pm
I finished these today and got them out of my shop. They had been sitting an old home in a back room for years.
Cats were using it for their beds. As you can see they were pretty nasty.

Good job IB. I like the way you closed the gap on the back cushion. What was the last upholsterer thinking?
That fabric really updates it.

Only suggestion I would make, take your "after" picture without the arm caps on

Thanks Kody.  I don't know what they were thinking.  I don't think whoever made those last time really didn't do upholstery work.

Joys Shop.  I'll certainly take your suggestion into consideration.  Thanks for the input.

But now what are the cats going to use. Don't you love it when you recover a piece that was destroyed by a cat and when you deliver it the first thing Morris does is walk up to the chair and use it for a scratch post?

Those are super!  (I have a chair that needs some attention... courtesy of the little brown tabby).

Isn't it something how they seem to know when we need new furniture! They have an amazing ability of drawing your attention to it.

Nice job on the recover. Hope to be able to do work like that someday. For now I just be slingin canvas.

The Palmetto rat is probly my best animal friend. They seem to have a taste for Sunbrella?

Tell ya a story bout my cat. I was carrying groceries in one night & had to make a couple trips to the car. That dang cat snuck up & jumped in & hid where I didn't see him. Closed the door & went on about my business.  In the morning I opened the door and a cat shot out. That lil sob had apparently been tryin to claw through the driver side door panel all night long. Naturally taking time out to relieve himself during the process ...

Considering it was a cherry 50th Anniversary 300ZX turbo I was none too pleased. 'Uzi' came very close to using up at least one of his 9 lives that morning ...

Great job.

One thing I noticed almost immediately was how you matched the stripe on the front of the arm guards. Awesome detail.

Great job on matching all the stripes, too.

Kodydog, the previous upholsterer was thinking about LOVE! Those back cushions are in the shape of hearts. Haven't you heard that love is blind? Well, love can't do decent loose back cushions either. As Steve Martin once said, "Love - the best thing money can buy."

Thanks for all the compliments. The lady I did the work for are giving them to her daughter for one of her wedding presents. The chairs had been reupholstered several times.  They looked like they were from the 40's or early 50's.

CreativeCanvas....I've never done any canvas work so I would be totally lost at it. I envy all you ones that are masters at it.

Neat chair.

Only problem, cat could lay in it and you would never see him. You could call your fool head off for hours and all the cat would do is yawn.
