The back has a strong curve ... similar to corner booth seats (the 'U' shaped ones). The center pattern for the 'U' shaped seat reminded me of a baseball diamond ... seemed like such an odd shape but fit seamlessly when blended with the right and left. Maybe someone has patterns that could be modified for yours? I do not believe I saved any from restaurant work this spring ... now watch, I'll come across a set  ;)

There is always one of these type of cutting tools ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaq5yZMzADQ

I understand there is a less expensive version out on the market ... I can only attest to this tools use and borrow my sisters whenever I need.  ;D

Maybe you could call one of her kin and ask them about how to approach her? You could explain you are concerned with the furniture getting damaged/dirty/etc. while waiting for her to return ...

The money is one concern while the left sitting around is another ... right?

I'd be thinking old school for measuring ... like using a piece of string to map out the shape and then measuring it for the length.

Kind of like when measuring between items (inside dimension) ... two shorter sticks pushed out with a pencil line across has been my go-to method. Am I showing my age?  ::)

Remember the 3-4-5 rule for checking squareness? Anyone??  ;D

Have y'all heard of a Disto? Great for measuring houses ... has a laser light. And those roller wheels ... nice too except for inside corners  ;) (my sister is an appraiser and these two tools are great for buildings).

Hi Virginia -- from one newbie to another  ;)

Might have to debate that "God's Country" slogan you say belongs to Nebraskans ... seems us Wisconsin-folk have claimed rights to it ... LOL

Must be the year for restaurant booth work as I also had a large project that covered six weeks this spring ... and now we are the 'repair upholsterers' for another outfit that will need full recovering within the next couple years. As far as your real question: I have a belief that I will be taken care of and thus far I have been (all thanks to God).

Nicely done and great match with that pattern ... in ONLY 15 hours!
I am with Dennis ... tracking time is not my thing either ... no comment on his 'pristine' environment though  :D Seems I have a picture somewhere of his shop ... definitely white glove spotless  ;)

Hello from a new person to this forum ...

I recently went through the process of learning about bulk discounts for a commercial job that was estimated to be in the 3-4 roll category. One company that I have used routinely for fabric and vinyl told me they could offer a discount of 8% ... seemed OK until a second smaller company I contacted stated they could offer a 20% discount!!!

Even more incredible, the 2nd company did not carry the color and style the client wanted but would order it direct from the mill for us plus their price was $10 retail less than the other guys ... guess who got the order!!

I also negotiated a discount on 70 sheets of foam for the same job; only 7% but better than nothing.

Thus, I have learned to ask for better pricing for quantity whenever I am working up a bid now ... and I will go to smaller sources if needed just to get better pricing. Good luck  :)

Chris,

Wouldn't-cha know ... probably would have only asked for a dozen too! Oh well, does make me realize I ought to add another item to my 'when not busy to do list'. Thanks anyways ... will continue to 'make do' for now  :)

The Business Of Upholstery / Re: More domain talk
May 06, 2013, 07:08:07 am
Being somewhat techno-savvy and a proclaimed computer nerd my domain and website are hosted not enabled by one company (misk.com at $49/yr for domain and hosting) ... no banners, no GoDaddy issues, and all the content and images remain under my control and ownership regardless.

In this way all the time and effort I put into the content and pictures, etc. does not 'vaporize' if I were to choose a different provider ... mostly because I am using a stand alone WYSIWYG program and upload to the host server compared to making changes directly on the host server.

What I understand for what I call enabled sites, is if you no longer wish to host through say GoDaddy, the content and images do not transfer so you will in essence have to start over when you move to a new hosting partner. Can be very frustrating and difficult to replicate depending on the site structure (ask me how I know  :D)
