I'm going to get a tub of that Monday or Tuesday.  All 4 high schools in Grand Island have Senior Prom next Saturday (23rd).  I already had 3 dresses, all with varying types of complexity, and didn't plan on taking in any others.  But, a customer referred the mother to me so I had them come over.  2 skirts to shorten.  I told here that it would probably be Friday evening and if she could handle that, I'd get it done for them.  So, now 4 dresses.  2 of the original 3 are almost done.  It's just that I should get vinyl for this project either Monday or Tuesday and I want to get going for Dax.  I have progressed to where I can pretty much do anything I want to (walk without crutches most of the day) but going up and down the stairs wears me out.  Still don't have my toilet and sink set down here so I make more trips upstairs than I care for.  Also, I'm just slower than pre-break, which I haven't figured out why.  Maybe my brain thinks it's still on sick leave or something.  Dunno.  Hoping that changes as I'm ready to get back full throttle with these projects.  Delighted that I have as much going on as I do.  Also, still have to do my 1040 (have all the attachments completed) and Nebraska's little easy-peasy 1040 to do.  Heading over into IT area right now.  Want to knock out the Fed 1040 and then start prom dressing.  They are nice change and my cash reserve looks pretty deplorable right now so these dresses will perk up my bank balance.  LOL

Have you purchased a heat gun yet?  You need to be careful to not touch the element to your vinyl but you can stretch it out something crazy with the heat gun.  You still have to get "down and dirty" as far as getting in there and pushing, stretching, pulling, cursing, etc.

Don't know if the heat gun will answer your question but it does a lot of stuff, in addition to pulling out wrinkles.

The best metal polish I have ever found is called "Never-dull" . It is a cotton wadding soaked in what ever the active ingredient is. It comes in a blue can the size of an oil filter. I get it in the auto section of Canadian tire with the other car polishes but have seen it at places like NAPA Piston ring etc...I'd have all my brass done and be off to the mess before the other guys finished their cap badge with brasso.

LOL!  I was just kicking myself that I didn't still have a can of Brasso hanging around someplace!  I'll make some calls and see what I can find around here.

My barber came yesterday with the one of the five chairs from his waiting room.  Plan is to tear apart the first one, get all five cut out, finish the first one.  He'll bring two when he picks up the first.  When those two are done, we will swap out for the remaining two unfinished ones.  That way, his customers will always have a minimum of three seats to sit in.

Back is pretty straightforward.  Both pieces have welting.  Seat is waterfall type, which I did about 60 of for one of the restaurant's in town so that is not a big deal.  Fabric is black with just a hint of texturing in it.   The frames are stainless steel, I think, with wood handles.  Wood is in great condition for the age.

Stainless steel has some spotting on it, I guess you would call it.  Not part of my job, but if it's not too difficult, is there something I can use on the frames to get them sparkling again and get rid of the spotting?

I'm surprised that you were able to keep the exact same online name. I think when Mike had computer problems a few years ago, he had to re-join under a new name. He went from Mike8560 to just Mike.

I was too.  I was just going to register as Virg.  Decided to type in the old user name just for kicks and it let me.  Lost my post count which is not a big deal to me.  Registration date too.  That would have been nice to keep as I don't remember when I first signed up but again not the end of the world.

We thought about it but honestly, he's just not worth it.  What goes around comes around seems to come to play most of the time.  Tim (new contractor) will correct some of Ray's crap and my room will look fabulous.  A couple of years from now, Ray will be a fading memory (or sooner I hope).

Too funny but that is exactly how I've learned to do chairs.  I take pictures every step of the way and then refer to my pictures when I am ready to start reassembling the chair.

I've also bought the 5 DVD's that are for sale at the top of the forum.  I want to watch them and my down time would have been an excellent time to do that except that my laptop (cheapest one Bob could find) doesn't have a CD slot, I couldn't get downstairs to my tower which would have let me or the TV with DVD player hooked up on the other side of Sew & Sew.  When we got rid of Direct TV, Bob took out the upstairs DVD player.  

So, once I get to being more mobile and get my current rush of prom dresses and income taxes mailed, I intend to be a newbie and watch all five DVD's to see what tips I can pick up.  I figure that also might make me more knowledgeable about answering questions even if something I haven't done.  I can just reference the DVD and perhaps help get some of them sold.  That would definitely be a Win/Win.

Speaking of prom dresses, off to the sewing machine I go.  Very excited for my upholstery client to get here tomorrow.  5 waiting chairs for a barber shop.  He brought one by in January and I have written down that it is a waterfall style chair.  I did about 60 of those for one of the restaurants so I've already got the learning curve whipped into submission on this project!

Well, I for sure almost bit off more than I could chew my first go round.  I upholstered restaurant benches.  Fabric came with projects and was either defective or was not suitable.  First seat I did was god awful.  Owner was very nice and worked with me.  Hopped on here and talked with you guys and every seat got better.  By the time I finished, I looked like I had been upholstering all my life.  I should also point out I am stubborn and don't like to admit defeat.

I tend to agree with the participation standpoint.  When the spinal/back board starting adding forums, it was because membership had gone from 10-15 regulars to several hundred regulars perusing different forums daily and literally thousands of guests who read but never registered.  New forums were added as user population requested.  Each forum added another level of complexity and aftrer 2 or 3 new forums were added, another moderator was necessary to deal with reading threads and insurisng that they were on topic.  Every time we moved a thread, as a courtesy, we would send a pm to the thread author and explain what forum their thread was moved and the rationale behind it. 

Yes, adding forums does help with housekeeping but the housekeeping adds complexity to running the site.  I guess my hope is that at some point, due to our bourgening  membershhip, new forums and a mod or two will become necessary.  For right now I would hope that we are all capable of backing out of threads that don't interest us or that we think are off topic.  It's been my experience that oftentimes threads are kind of like the ebbing and wanning of the ocean tides.  A thread can start out relevant or not relevant and as people post it will change.  Or sometimes, it will just stay on topic or off topic as the case may be.  Usually, I find some entertainment in those off topic threads, like the Friday funnies for example.

I rather enjoy reading about how fellow upholsterers live their daily lives. It's as relevant to me as discussing the proper way to tie springs or staple a skirt.

Except for Keith's, right? I may not share his exact sentiments but I did appreciate his tack and manner of presentation. I don't think I have that much control.

And don't forget it's the internet. You can't say, "You're full of sh1t. Pass me another cookie, would you?" And you either get a cookie passed to you or thrown at you.

I stopped reading the political thread when Virginia justified Muslin terrorists being allowed to come into this country. It's the internet. I was wrong to expect rational discussions on politics.

And I too rarely read her other posts. And that was my choice.

When I post non upholstery related stuff I put "Friday" somewhere in the Topic line assuming folks know that an incredibly funny, witty, and often insightful joke is contained within the post. But not necessarily upholstery related. I'll make an effort to be more detailed in the Topic line of non upholstery related topics should I post any more such topics.

Either way that is one gorgeous item Steve.  I'm actually kind of jealous of you.  First you found it.  Second you could do the refinish on the wood as well as the upholstery.  You have every right to be proud of that piece!
